Raised Beds & No Dig Cultivation

Raised Beds work best with nature...

Mick's beds are 4ft wide meaning he can easliy reach the middle of the bed from either side, so he never needs tread on the bed at all. This means - no compaction, no digging. In addition to this, digging kills the Soil Food Web (the good Fungi - Mycorrhizae) and also brings old weed seeds to the surface. In fact the ONLY weeds Mick receives on his plot are air borne.

If you have naff soil (clay or under a tree for example) then a Raised Bed is ideal. Mick fills his with Spent Horse Manure, Spent Hops, Spent Mushroom Compost, worm casts ,Top Soil , Garden Compost and Leaf Mold. If you have a good brew underneath, you will have a good brew on top , giving you an excellent healthy plant - common sence!

With no water logging, the soil warms up quicker so you can plant out earlier. Used scaffolding boards are ideal for raised beds, Mick can get suitable boards at 13ft for just £5.00. Simply Google 'scaffolding boards' plus your post code, ring them all up and get the cheapest price delivered.
